Hughes targets new keeper
29 Jul 2008 - 10:31:36
Manchester City manager Mark Hughes is keen to sign a new goalkeeper before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
Andreas Isaksson left the club at the end of last term so City have only Joe Hart and Kasper Schmeichel currently on their books.
Hughes told City's official website: "We're still looking. We still think that we need cover there.
"We have two outstanding young keepers, but I think it's important that we try to bring an experienced one in beside them as well.
"We'll continue to try to pursue that, but I don't think there is much that is likely to happen in the next few days.
"Ideally, you would prefer that you get players early in pre-season, because that helps them to integrate into the group and to let them understand how we want to play.
"Having said that, I've done business right up until the last minute of transfer windows in the past, so it isn't something that I'm worried about.
"Good business can still be done very late in the window. There's an ideal time to make signings but as long as you get the right players then it doesn't really matter."
