    Hughes hopeful over SWP

    12 May 2009 - 15:56:08

Mark Hughes has revealed that a setback in his recovery from an ankle injury forced Shaun Wright-Phillips out of Manchester City's derby defeat on Sunday.

The England winger was expected to return from a five-match absence against Manchester United.

Wright-Phillips missed the 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford after suffering a setback, but Hughes hopes the flare up won't keep him out of the weekend trip to Tottenham.

"He had a setback last week," Hughes told the club's official website.

"He had a bang on his knee which really stopped him in his tracks when that happened.

"He was not anywhere near being fit for Sunday unfortunately, but we hope that the knee will settle down and that he will be an option for us for next week."

Speaking about the derby defeat, Hughes added: "The problem was that we were made to play in front of their back four, rather than around it.

"Without that kind of energy to break their lines, drive past players in wide areas and get crosses in."
