Hughes hopeful over Adebayor
29 Sep 2009 - 12:56:01
Manchester City boss Mark Hughes is hoping Emmanuel Adebayor is treated leniently when he answers a charge of improper conduct later in the week.
The City striker has been summoned by the Football Association following his behaviour in the 4-2 victory over former club Arsenal on September 12.
City decided not to contest a charge of violent conduct after Adebayor left former team-mate Robin van Persie nursing a facial wound following an alleged stamp.
However, they are seeking to overturn a separate charge of improper conduct relating to the striker's decision to run the length of the pitch to celebrate scoring in front of travelling Arsenal fans.
"We'll be putting our views across and we're hopeful of a positive result," said Hughes.
"He apologised almost immediately after and I think people need to move on."
The Togo striker came out immediately after the highly-charged match at Eastlands and apologised for his goal celebration.
Objects were thrown at him from the away fans while a City steward was injured in the ugly melee which ensued.
