Manchester City manager Mark Hughes has been impressed by Elano's attitude in the last few weeks.
Elano produced an inspired display in Brazil's midweek international friendly against Italy and has bounced back after making an inconsistent start to the Premier League campaign.
Earlier in the season, Elano was fined for comments he made about Hughes, but the City boss has since tried to improve his relationship with the 27-year-old.
"Ela has played a large proportion of the games this year and has done well in a high percentage of them," Hughes told the Manchester Evening News.
"At the moment the reason he isn't starting games is the form of Stevie Ireland.
"At times that means Ela is frustrated. He's one of those players that find it difficult if he isn't in the starting XI. There are a lot of players like that. In fairness I was exactly the same.
"I think he understands we're trying to build a squad and where the club wants to go. He's settled down in that respect. He's got a big part to play here and he knows that.
"Ela has the versatility I like and, as an attacking midfielder, he's excellent in that role."
