Hughes hails happy Adebayor
31 Aug 2009 - 08:28:20
Manchester City boss Mark Hughes believes Emmanuel Adebayor is benefiting from greater support at Eastlands than he was given at former club Arsenal.
The £25million Togo striker's third goal for his new club earned City a 1-0 win over Portsmouth on Sunday to maintain their 100 per cent start to the season.
"It's clear to see he is happy where he is," said Hughes.
"He's enjoying playing with good players again and the fans love him. That maybe was missing from his life before.
"I thought he was superb. There was a lot said about Ade as a player and a person - a lot of it with a negative slant.
"You can only judge people on how you find them and he's come in and wants to be successful. Those negative things people said I haven't seen.
"He's enjoying the team he's in. He could be at the start of something special and wants to play a big part in that.
Meanwhile, Hughes was also pleased with his new-look defence as Joleon Lescott made his first Premier League appearance since his £24million switch from Everton last week.
"We are keeping clean sheets and that always gives you a chance of winning games," he added.
"Fratton Park is a hard place to come and get something but we were always in control of the game.
"We took the lead and we should really have had a second goal, which we deserved."
