Hughes: City in Adebayor talks
14 Jul 2009 - 16:32:50
Mark Hughes has revealed that Manchester City are in discussions with Arsenal over the potential signing of Emmanuel Adebayor.
Speaking at the press conference to unveil another new striker in Carlos Tevez at Eastlands, City boss Hughes confirmed reports which have emerged in recent days that the Arsenal forward is also on his summer shopping list.
Armed by the resources of the club's mega-rich Abu Dhabi owners, Hughes has now set his sights on luring the £25million-rated Togo striker to the City of Manchester Stadium.
City have already spent £18million on one new striker in Roque Santa Cruz from Blackburn Rovers before confirming the capture of Argentina international Tevez for a fee believed to be in the region of £25million.
Tevez, who had been on loan with City rivals Manchester United for the last two seasons, has put pen to paper on a five-year contract with the Citizens.
But with the ink yet to dry on that contract, Hughes has now turned his attention to another striker.
Referring to Adebayor, he revealed: "There have been discussions between ourselves and Arsenal. However, it is not the right time or place to discuss that.
"There has been contact and there is a possible deal to be had."
Adebayor has scored 62 goals in 142 appearances for the Gunners following his arrival from AS Monaco in January 2006.
