HATCHET MAN: United boss Fergie cannot afford to lose Tevez to arch rivals City
Manchester United are making it pretty clear they either cannot find or do not want to pay the £32million required to sign Carlos Tevez. But if neighbours Manchester City are ready to put up the money, it is hard to see how they can afford not to. Allowing the striker to escape from under their noses at Old Trafford to become the next serious statement of intent from Eastlands would be a bitter pill to swallow. Watching City sign Robinho is one thing, but letting them buy a crowd favourite who could make the blue half of Manchester a credible force is another altogether. Tevez would be great for City too. They have plenty of room for him to take top billing and his hard-working, no-nonsense style is just what Mark Hughes needs. In one fell swoop City would have landed a serious blow on their more illustrious neighbours and become a team to be reckoned with. No wonder Sir Alex Ferguson is touchy on the subject.
