Harry: Citizens can win title
24 Jul 2009 - 07:37:43
Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp believes that big-spending Manchester City could mount a Premier League title challenge as early as next season.
The Citizens have drafted in the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Roque Santa Cruz and Gareth Barry this summer, while they are also keen to try and tempt John Terry away from Chelsea.
Redknapp warned: "Don't write them off, they can do it.
"If they bring in a couple of players they could be right up there. They already have players like Shaun Wright-Phillips and Stephen Ireland who are great players.
"If Mark Hughes gets the right players they could be real title contenders. If they get a couple of good players in the right areas, then who knows.
"Look at their strikeforce, they have players like Tevez, Adebayor, Roque Santa Cruz and Craig Bellamy.
"You wouldn't swap that for too many other strikeforces in the league."
"Chelsea did it and so did Blackburn when they brought in players like Chris Sutton, Alan Shearer and Tim Flowers. They built a team to win the championship."
