Given hails City spirit
Shay Given points to Manchester City's battling draw at Wigan on Sunday as proof the Blues are a great team, not just a team of great individuals. At first glance, dropping two points at the DW Stadium was not a great outcome, particularly as Manchester United slammed five past Roberto Martinez's men at the same ground in August. But City were without £60million-worth of talent in Robinho, Kolo Toure and Craig Bellamy. They also fell a goal behind and had Pablo Zabaleta sent off for two bookable offences. And, as Given also pointed out, Chelsea were beaten in similar circumstances by Wigan last month. So City returned to their Eastlands base reasonably satisfied, having answered many of the questions about their commitment to the cause. "We showed great team spirit to get something out of that game," said Given. "A few weeks ago, Chelsea went down to 10 men here and lost. Probably last year exactly the same would have happened to us. "Instead we showed we can dig deep together. It proves we are not just a team of individuals as some people have suggested. There is great team spirit and togetherness in our dressing room as well."
