Eriksson: Start could cost me

22 May 2008 - 08:48:03

Sven-Goran Eriksson believes his impressive start to life as Manchester City manager could ultimately cost him his job.

The former England coach took over at Eastlands last summer following Thaksin Shinawatra's takeover of the club.

City lost just two of their first ten Premier League games and were in the top four during the opening few months of the campaign before slipping away as the season progressed.

But amid continued rumours that an unhappy Shinawatra will look for a new manager this summer, Eriksson has conceded that the better than expected start to his tenure could ironically cost him dearly.

"The first half of the season was fantastic, maybe too good to be true," admitted the Swede.

"The second half we weren't as good. But in total it was a very good year for Manchester City."

When asked about his future during the current post-season tour to the Far East, Eriksson added: "About next season? I don't want to talk about that today."
