Eriksson eyed Santa Cruz

Manchester City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has confirmed that he was monitoring striker Roque Santa Cruz before he joined Blackburn Rovers last summer.

The 26-year-old Paraguay international has scored 11 goals in 23 appearances for Rovers since his summer switch from Bayern Munich, with Eriksson having shown an interest in the South American.

He said: "Santa Cruz was on my radar but I was just a bit too late. I saw him many times for Bayern Munich and for Paraguay.

"It is no surprise to me how well he has done in the Premier League, because he is a very good player.

"He did well against Chelsea and when you look at the game overall, Blackburn were very unlucky to lose, so we know how tough it is going to be for us."
