Dunne considers City stay

06 Jun 2008 - 09:37:16

Manchester City skipper Richard Dunne is weighing up whether to leave the club, following the appointment of Mark Hughes as the new manager at Eastlands.

The 28-year-old Irish centre-back had seemed certain to leave City this summer, with Newcastle United, Spurs and Portsmouth all waiting to swoop, but Dunne may now remain with the Citizens.

He said: "It was disappointing that Sven-Goran Eriksson had to leave, but in Mark Hughes we have got an exciting young manager who has done particularly well at Blackburn.

"Premier League experience counts for a lot and he has proved he can mix it with the best over the last few seasons.

"No team ever relished going to Ewood Park when he was in charge and Blackburn established themselves as a top-ten side and did well in the cups too.

"I know from speaking to players who have been in his side that he is a disciplined and highly-regarded coach and that bodes well for the club.

"I will have to wait and see which way the club is going to go now. There is certainly a need for some stability."
