Corluka swells City ranks

Manchester City have completed a second signing of the day by capturing Dinamo Zagreb defender Vedran Corluka for an undisclosed fee.

The Citizens snapped up Real Sociedad left-back Jabier Garrido a couple of hours earlier, as new manager Sven-Goran Eriksson took his number of summer signings to six.

The former England coach has already brought in Rolando Bianchi, Geovanni, Martin Petrov and Gelson Fernandes to boost his City squad.

Corluka, 21, has signed a five-year contract at Eastlands, having been a target for a number of other clubs.

He has played several times for Croatia, including in the 2-0 win over England last October, as well as gaining Champions League experience with Dinamo.

City boss Eriksson had hinted that deals were close at hand after the 2-0 pre-season friendly win at Shrewsbury Town, saying: "There could be two, maybe three new faces.

"Something has to happen soon as the league is about to start."
