FORWARD PLANNING: Roberto ManciniRoberto Mancini has a clear mandate to lead City forward ? and wants to make the most of it by ending their wait for a trophy. Mancini has pledged to step up his own workrate in the chase for glory next season, and has ordered his players to do the same. The City boss is adamant that he only wants players who are happy and hungry for success. And he has given the clearest signal yet that he is determined to stop the rumours of training ground unrest. He said: ?I want players here who are happy, who want to work hard and who want to win with Manchester City. ?It?s important for me and for the club, because if the players are happy to work here, it?s better.? Mancini has grown tired of reports suggesting that Carlos Tevez is unhappy with his training methods ? and insists the Argentinian is happy at Eastlands. And Craig Bellamy, another player with a vocal reputation, has indicated that he wants to stay and be a part of the Mancini adventure. The City boss was grateful to chairman Khaldoon al Mubarak for ending the speculation about his future following Wednesday night?s shattering home defeat against Tottenham. That loss ended City?s hopes of qualifying for next season?s Champions League, and set those outside the club whispering about the Italian?s Eastlands future. But with the chairman?s support, Mancini is ready to start planning for next season ? once tomorrow?s trip to West Ham is out of the way. He said: ?It feels good, but I have a contract for three years. All the newspapers wrote that if I didn?t get to fourth position, I would finish my work here. ?But I think that we have worked very well. We tried to get fourth position. But this is football. ?We played at a similar level to the other teams going for fourth, and I think we will continue to improve over the coming months. ?Football is strange sometimes. It is not easy to say: ?OK, we are going to win the Premier League.? But we will try. ?Next season, we will play in the Premier League, the Europa League, the FA Cup and the Carling Cup. I think that next year, we can win something.? Mancini managed to take City?s push for a top-four place into the final week of the season after replacing Mark Hughes in December.| Submit Comments| Comments (4)| PrintWhat's this?
