Manchester City have reportedly set their sights on an overseas manager following the decision to sack Stuart Pearce on Monday.
Dutch pair Louis van Gaal and Ronald Koeman have already been linked with the Eastlands post along with former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier.
However, the direction the club will turn as they seek to appoint a new manager will depend on the outcome of takeover talks currently under way at the City of Manchester Stadium.
Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is the current frontrunner to complete a buyout of the club and is rumoured to be an admirer of both van Gaal and Koeman - currently the in charge of Dutch sides AZ Alkmaar and PSV Eindhoven respectively.
Meanwhile, City defender Danny Mills has revealed that dressing room unrest was behind the club's poor Premiership campaign and ultimately the sacking of Pearce.
"Some players may have been slightly discontented this season," he told BBC Radio Five Live.
"Some have said their pieces in the papers and the press and they've felt things haven't been going well.
"Ultimately that's for a new manager to come in and put right. You need happy players. A happy camp is normally a successful camp."
