City's ambition key for Johnson
02 Feb 2010 - 13:31:53
New signing Adam Johnson has revealed Manchester City's ambition was behind his decision to make the move from Middlesbrough.
The England Under-21 international joined City from his hometown club on deadline day for an initial fee of £6million and believes he can fulfil his ambitions at the City of Manchester Stadium.
Johnson could make his debut when the Citizens travel to the KC Stadium to take on Hull City on Saturday.
"I came here because this is a club going places and doing really well," he said after putting pen to paper on a four-and-a-half year contract.
"The key word for me is ambition - this is an ambitious club and there is a good chance of winning things and of making myself into a better player by playing with top players in training every day.
"I already know some of the lads here - I spent most of last summer with Micah Richards and Nedum Onuoha with the England Under-21s in the European Championships and we became good friends.
"I had a few words with Nedum when I knew I was coming here, but nothing that affected my decision.
"I wanted to better myself. I didn't want to stay in my comfort zone and not move away from my home in Middlesbrough. I want to be the best player I can possibly be."
