City pull out of Eto'o race
11 Jul 2009 - 10:27:05
Manchester City have seemingly run out of patience in their protracted transfer of Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o, according to chief executive Garry Cook.
The forward looked to be heading to Eastlands when Barcelona and City agreed a fee a fortnight ago but personal demands by the player for a proportion of the settlement look to have derailed the deal.
"Samuel Eto'o is undoubtedly a fine footballer but the circumstances surrounding him were such that the deal could not be completed," said Cook.
"We now feel the time is right to pursue other avenues and we have a clear and strategic transfer plan, which we continue to follow."
With Brazilian striker Jo being allowed to join Everton on a season-long loan deal, manager Mark Hughes is obviously confident of landing one or more of his other transfer targets, with Carlos Tevez and Giuseppe Rossi both likely arrivals.
