City plan Jordan deal

Manchester City boss Kevin Keegan has begun moves to keep Stephen Jordan at the club after the defender broke into the first team.

The 22-year-old is out of contract in the summer, but his impressive displays as understudy for Ben Thatcher in recent weeks convinced Keegan that he could become an important player for City.

"We are talking to Stephen and a few players at the moment and still discussing matters with them," Keegan told the club's official website.

"Stephen has done very well and he has not surprised a lot of people at this football club.

"I have always told him that he has got something and that if he stayed here that he would get a chance and that if he got a chance who knows what would happen.

"That is what has happened. He got his chance and he has done very well. He has looked very comfortable and you must give him credit as he has waited a long time.

"He has seized the opportunity in the best way possible by contributing more than you would expect from him. He is working hard and is a very determined player who does not like getting beaten."

Jordan almost left Eastlands last summer after growing dissatisfied with his lack of first-team opportunities, but was persuaded to sign a one-year deal despite interest from Stockport County and Peterborough United.
