City look to sign loan keeper
26 Apr 2010 - 13:13:34
Manchester City are hoping to sign a goalkeeper on an emergency loan basis until the end of the season following a request to the Premier League.
City boss Roberto Mancini has been left with a major selection headache after losing first-choice keeper Shay Given for the remaining three games of the season.
Republic of Ireland international Given dislocated his shoulder in the goalless draw at Arsenal on Saturday evening which kept Roberto Mancini's side in the hunt for fourth place in the table and the final Champions League qualifying spot.
Back-up keeper Stuart Taylor is also currently sidelined with a knee injury, while Joe Hart is on a season-long loan at Birmingham City which cannot be ended early.
Meanwhile, fourth choice David Gonzalez is also currently absent with a groin injury.
That leaves just little-known Faroe Islands international Gunnar Nielsen available to Mancini ahead of a vital run of games which will define whether ambitious City's season is a success of failure.
They are currently sixth in the table, but just one point adrift of Spurs in the all-important fourth spot.
