City ambition lured de Jong
22 Jan 2009 - 08:01:24
New signing Nigel de Jong claims he was persuaded to join Manchester City by the club's ambition.
The 24-year-old Netherlands international midfielder has penned a four-and-a-half year contract with Mark Hughes' side after City agreed a fee, reported to be £14million, with German side Hamburg earlier in the week.
De Jong is City's second signing of the week following the capture of Craig Bellamy from West Ham United and the defensive midfielder claimed the chance to be part of the revolution at Eastlands persuaded him to make the move.
"I feel very good and for me it is the next step in my own career after three years in Germany and I hope to be successful here at Manchester City," he told the club's official website.
"The ideas and the planning behind this club are very hopeful and it's a new adventure so I'm delighted to be here right now.
"The stadium looks great and I think it can only be better when it's full of people.
"I'm looking forward to playing here and everybody knows that the Premier League is maybe the biggest competition in the world."
