Manchester City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has admitted that talks about the club's future with owner Thaksin Shinawatra went well, with a Champions League spot the ultimate goal.
The former England head coach has guided City to the fringes of the UEFA Cup qualifying places in his first season in charge and the Swede is aware that the Citizens chief expects further progress in the coming seasons.
Eriksson told the Manchester Evening News: "The atmosphere at the meeting was very good.
"I've had lots of meetings with him in the past, but for obvious reasons we hadn't had one in the last five weeks.
"It was very a constructive dialogue. We talked football as well as Manchester City.
"It is very clear what his aims are, namely to qualify for the UEFA Cup next year and the Champions League the year after that.
"Now we know how to work and what type of players to bring in. Everything is clear and very good.
"What the chairman is seeking is ambitious, but it is a clear ambition and we now know the targets. We hope that we can reach those targets.
"It is realistic to try to be among the ten best this season, the six best next season and then, we hope, the four best the year after. It is better to build slowly like that."
