Manchester City remain upbeat about the prospects of signing Brazilian striker Jo from CSKA Moscow, despite problems over third-party ownership.
The 21-year-old is being lined up as one of City's major summer transfer targets, but Premier League rules over third-party ownership had seemed to place the deal in some danger.
However, executive chairman Garry Cook told the club's official website: "Jo is a player who interests us and we are currently in discussions with CSKA Moscow and his representatives.
"We are hopeful of progress and we are keeping in contact with the Premier League on the issue.
"Manchester City are fully aware of the rules regarding third-party ownership of players and any transfers will be completed to Premier League regulations."
