Manchester City have agreed a £4.7million deal with Atletico Madrid for Bulgaria winger Martin Petrov.
The 28-year-old left-sided forward has tied up a three-year deal with the Citizens and also passed a medical, needing only to secure a work permit to complete his move to England.
City chief executive, Alistair Mackintosh, told the club's official website: "Unsurprisingly, given the calibre of the player, there were a significant number of clubs competing for Martin's signature.
"Having Sven-Goran Eriksson as our manager proved to be a major factor in the player's decision to move here."
New City boss Eriksson has already brought in Rolando Bianchi, Gelson Fernandes and Geovanni since taking charge at Eastlands earlier this summer.
Petrov started his career with CSKA Sofia, before a spell in Switzerland with Servette.
In the summer of 2001 he headed to Germany to link up with Wolfsburg and four years later he moved on again to join Atletico.
He has also scored 14 goals in 64 appearances for the Bulgarian national team.
