Citizens role perfect for Tevez
13 Apr 2010 - 08:59:45
Striker Carlos Tevez believes that a slight change in his role in the team is a key factor behind his superb form for Manchester City this season.
The 26-year-old Argentina international has banged in 28 goals for the Citizens since his arrival from Manchester United and is clearly enjoying life at Eastlands.
He told the Daily Mail: "I am playing now as a free striker - this is my position.
"I am now playing in the position I played in Argentina and Brazil and in the last ten games for West Ham. At Manchester United, I was asked to defend more. It was a different responsibility.
"Now I go on to the pitch and I am physically fit and mentally strong. I say to myself, 'you have to win the game for City'.
"In my head, before the game, I think, 'goals, goals, goals'. It's 28 of them and still counting."
Meanwhile, Tevez's former United team-mate, Rio Ferdinand, has claimed that the South American used to take it easy during training with the Red Devils.
"Carlos is an interesting character," Ferdinand told The Sun. "When he was at United, he saved all his energy for the games - he didn't really go over the top at training.
"He worked hard in the gym - he was a professional in that sense - but everything he did was geared towards the match at the weekend.
"You could see him conserving his energy during the week and then laying it all on the line out on the pitch."
