Manchester City are reportedly close to sealing a move for Mexico striker Nery Castillo, who currently plays in Ukraine for Shakhtar Donetsk.
The 23-year-old only joined Shakhtar last summer, but has struggled to adjust to life in a new country, having risen to prominence during a lengthy spell with Greek side Olympiacos.
Castillo's agent, Jose Luis Padilla, said in the Daily Mail: "There has been an agreement with Manchester City so that Nery can be with the club for one year on loan so he can prove himself and play active football.
"Nery just wanted to play and that was not happening at Shakhtar. He is in England to iron out the final details of his contract."
Meanwhile, Citizens boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has dropped a major hint that he will try and sign Bolton Wanderers striker Nicolas Anelka in the New Year.
The 28-year-old France international has netted nine goals for the Trotters this season and is clearly on Eriksson's wish list.
He commented: "Anelka has everything you can wish from a striker - quality, technique, pace, goals and he is big and strong.
"He has done well at any club he has played for, he is a fantastic player."
