Manchester City have appealed against the sending-off of midfielder Joey Barton late on in the 2-0 home defeat to Bolton Wanderers.
Barton was shown a straight red card for a late lunge on Abdoulaye Faye, although there appeared to be minimal contact made in the challenge.
Citizens boss Stuart Pearce confirmed: "It was not a sending-off in my book. The most the tackle deserved was a yellow.
"It was a little bit of frustration and if you look at it again it was a lunge and only minimal contact was made.
"If we didn't think we had a leg to stand on we would not be appealing and we would take our punishment.
"Hopefully it will be rescinded, because I honestly do not feel it was a red card offence."
