Manchester City are reported to be in the hunt to sign Real Madrid's Italian forward Antonio Cassano.
The 25-year-old is likely to head out of the Bernabeu this summer, after failing to make his mark during 18 months with Real following his arrival from AS Roma.
However, the Citizens will face competition from Sampdoria, who are keen to take the Italy international back to Serie A.
Samp sporting director, Beppe Marotta, told RAI: "He is one of the players with the best talent in Italian football. It is obvious that Sampdoria is interested in him.
"Cassano is a man now. He knows that a move to Sampdoria can be important for his career.
"He knows well not to repeat the attitudes that have penalised him in the last few years."
Cassano, who started his career with Bari, has earned a reputation as a difficult customer to deal with, falling out with a number of coaches at Roma, before incurring the wrath of Fabio Capello at Real.
