Bridge tempted by ambition
05 Jan 2009 - 12:59:08
New signing Wayne Bridge claims he was persuaded to join Manchester City after hearing the ambition of the club.
The England left-back completed his move from Chelsea after signing a four-and-a-half year contract on Saturday and is expected to be just the first of many new faces arriving at Eastlands during the current transfer window.
Manager Mark Hughes is reported to have been given a massive transfer kitty by the club's Abu Dhabi-based owners as he looks to kick-start his side's disappointing season into life.
Hughes has also been linked with moves for West Ham duo Scott Parker and Craig Bellamy, plus an £18million swoop on former club Blackburn Rovers for striker Roque Santa Cruz.
But whoever arrives at the club this month, Bridge believes he has signed for an ambitious organisation.
"Obviously I've played with the manager before when he was at Southampton and I know him quite well," he told the club's official website.
"When I spoke to him everything he said was positive and that's good to hear. He was positive about me as well and that's nice it gives me confidence so hopefully I'll be showing that on the pitch.
"I'm very impressed with the vision of the club and where it wants to go.
"Obviously it's going to take time but we're going to progress and keep doing so until we achieve big things.
"There are some quality players here already and I'm looking forward to playing alongside them.
"There's a lot of talk of bringing more players in so I'm looking forward to that too."
