Bridge still believes in fourth
19 Apr 2010 - 10:23:21
Manchester City defender Wayne Bridge is refusing to give up hope of finishing fourth in the Premier League despite Saturday's derby defeat.
City's 1-0 defeat by Manchester United and Spurs' victory over leaders Chelsea later in the day has put the north London club firmly in the driving seat when it comes to Champions League qualification.
City now trail fourth-placed Spurs by two points with just three games remaining in the season, but Bridge still believes that a first-ever season in the Champions League is attainable for the Eastlands club.
"Losing like we did was agonising, especially as we didn't deserve to be beaten like that," Bridge told the club's official website.
"I thought we deserved more than we got, even more than the draw that we nearly had.
"Losing was a real kick in the teeth but the prize is still there. The momentum is perhaps with Spurs but at the same time we know that fourth place is still in our hands.
"We will be working even harder to make sure that we are in the top four come the end of the season."
