Bellamy realistic over future
09 Apr 2009 - 09:25:52
Manchester City striker Craig Bellamy claims he is realistic about his first-team opportunities should the club fulfil its new-found potential.
Bellamy was a £10million acquisition from West Ham United in January, but he is aware that his arrival was probably just one of many stop-gap signing until the big-spending Eastlands club can attract some of the world's best players.
City failed with an audacious £100million swoop for Brazil star Kaka from AC Milan in January following the takeover of the club by an Abu Dhabi-based investment group last summer.
"The aim is to do as well as I can and establish this club in the top six," said Bellamy.
"Then, hopefully, to hang in there when better players come along.
"Then if they need someone to clean their boots, I will do that as well!
"I am at my peak and City are going to get a couple of years out of me at my absolute top.
"When I am retired and seeing City competing for Champions Leagues, I want to know deep down that I was part of it from the early stages. That will give me great satisfaction."
