Bellamy dismisses strike talk

Wales international Craig Bellamy has denied reports suggesting he went on strike earlier this month in an attempt to engineer a transfer from West Ham United to Manchester City.

Bellamy eventually moved to Eastlands last week but only after the Hammers had refused to sanction his transfer to Tottenham, prompting rumours to surface that Bellamy had refused to play for Gianfranco Zola's side.

However, Bellamy is adamant that the stories are untrue, saying: "I have a great relationship with Gianfranco.

"I've heard all this talk about me going on strike, but I have absolutely no idea where it has come from.

"I cannot understand it. Maybe in the past I have done some things that I shouldn't but this one is not true."

Of City's hopes for the remainder of the season, Bellamy added: "I still think we can finish in the top six this year.

"It is still an aim for us but if not it is what we should be going for next season. I have never been outside the top six in my whole career and I want that to carry on."
