Barry ankle concern for England
07 May 2010 - 07:47:52
Manchester City's Gareth Barry is England's latest injury scare ahead of this summer's World Cup.
The 29-year-old midfielder limped out of the midweek defeat to Tottenham at Eastlands with an ankle injury which City have diagnosed as a sprain.
However, the club's medical staff have admitted that the full extent of the injury is yet to be known.
"Gareth Barry will see a specialist on Friday after limping out of the defeat to Spurs," read a club statement.
"The England midfielder has sprained his right ankle but the full extent of any damage will not be known until further investigation has taken place."
Barry, who has won 36 international caps since making his debut in 2000, is expected to be a key member of Fabio Capello's World Cup squad.
Both he and the Italian coach will now be hoping he can recover before the Three Lions begin their South Africa campaign on June 12.
