Barry admits City must improve
10 Mar 2010 - 13:02:18
Midfielder Gareth Barry has admitted Manchester City must improve their results against the 'lesser teams' if they are to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season.
City are currently fifth in the table but level on points with Tottenham in the final Champions League qualifying spot.
Their 4-2 victory over leaders Chelsea two weeks ago has boosted hopes of a first ever season in Europe's premier club competition, but first Barry believes they must do better in games they are expected to win.
The Citizens have one such game on Sunday when they travel to 13th placed Sunderland.
"If you assess our performances against the top four we would be up there in a mini league table but any team that finishes in the top four has to perform against the teams in the bottom half as well," the England midfielder told the Manchester Evening News.
"Three points are massive in the Premier League and we need to keep collecting them.
"I'm not sure why we haven't done it against lesser teams.
"Earlier in the season, we had a slump where we failed to win four or five games in a row which we should have won.
"Hopefully, we can put that right before the end of the season, which is the vital part."
