Barcelona's Carles Puyol deal leaves Robinho out in the cold at Manchester City

Manchester City's hopes of bringing in Carles Puyol from Barcelonato strengthen their back four have ended with the news that the Catalanclub's captain has signed a new contract until 2013. Puyol was one player mooted as a possible makeweight in a deal to take Robinho to the Nou Camp in January.
