Manchester City chairman Thaksin Shinawatra has revealed that he is interested in bringing Internazionale striker Adriano to Eastlands.
The Brazilian forward is currently receiving physical and psychological treatment in Sao Paulo, but that has not put off potential buyers as several clubs, including West Ham United, have also been linked with the 25-year-old.
Shinawatra told journalists in Hong Kong: "We're looking to see whether we'll do a swap deal or not.
"Adriano was a top player, but he lost form when his father died, and he put on weight. Now he's returning to form."
The City chairman has also confirmed that manager Sven-Goran Eriksson will have funds to spend in January and that a central midfielder is their prime target.
He added: "We're looking at a new midfielder who we think will play very well with Elano. We're going to play in a classic style. We're looking for one striker, one midfielder, and maybe a winger."
Thaksin also discussed the financial difficulties of running a successful football club, adding: "The fact is I've just found out that running a football club, especially at the Premier League level, is very expensive.
"Normal revenue from TV, sponsors, kit sales, ticket sales is never enough. That's the reason why Premier League clubs keep changing hands, you need to find deeper and deeper pockets all the time."
