Emmanuel Adebayor is poised for a return to action after returning to training following a deadleg. And manager Roberto Mancini is pondering whether to start with want-away Shay Given in goal after his weekend revelations that he is sick of playing second fiddle to Joe Hart and is seeking a transfer. The Blues have vehemently denied Adebayor had a furious bust-up with Mancini a fortnight ago over the extent of his injury. Mancini says he had a ?discussion? with the Togolese ace about the time-scale involved, after joking that he had been fighting with his player for an hour. But that issue was resolved at the time, and Adebayor is now ready to stake a claim for a place in the team again. Talk of Given returning to Newcastle on loan has been called ?wild stuff? by Toon manager Chris Hughton, but he will be allowed to go on loan in January if he so wishes, after being displaced by Hart. And, although he would not be drawn on Given?s possible participation at the Hawthorns. The Blues had hoped to draft in defender Jerome Boateng for a gentle introduction to English football in the Carling Cup. But sources at City indicate there is ?no chance? he will play against Baggies ? but he could still face a fiery baptism against free-scoring Chelsea. One man who will miss the Chelsea game, and so head off more media frenzy surrounding his relationship with John Terry, is Wayne Bridge. The left back has a slight thigh muscle tear he picked up during the Salzburg match and will be out for two weeks. Bridge?s injury means Pablo Zabaleta is likely to continue at left back, with Joleon Lescott still out with an abductor muscle injury. City have dismissed reports that Mario Balotelli will make a shock return for the Chelsea game. The striker has not returned to full training after having a knee operation a fortnight ago. And talk of Shay Given returning to Newcastle on loan has been called ?wild stuff? by Toon manager Chris Hughton.Given will be allowed to go on loan in January if he so wishes, after being displaced from the first team by Joe Hart, but there had been talk of him being drafted in as an emergency signing by Newcastle after Steve Harper suffered shoulder ligament damage at the weekend.
