    Adebayor accepts FA charge

    16 Sep 2009 - 18:37:42

Manchester City have decided to accept the FA charge of violent conduct handed to Emmanuel Adebayor for his conduct during the weekend 4-2 win over former club Arsenal.

Adebayor faces a ban for a stamp aimed at former team-mate Robin van Persie, despite the striker insisting that there was no malice in his actions.

A short statement on the club's official website confirmed: "Manchester City announce that both the club and Emmanuel Adebayor have reluctantly accepted the violent conduct charge laid by the Football Association in the wake of the victory over Arsenal.

"The player strongly maintains that he did not intend to act in a violent manner.

"He apologised on the day to Robin van Persie personally and to the wider public for the outcome of the challenge.

"We await the findings of the FA's Disciplinary Panel which is due to meet on Thursday."

Citizens boss Mark Hughes had earlier told his club's official website: "Emmanuel Adebayor sustained a tremendous amount of personal abuse from the kick-off, but strongly maintains that there was no malice intended in the challenge on Robin van Persie.

"He apologised to him when he hugged him on leaving the field of play at the end of the game.

"The referee had a great view of the challenge from Ade and the one that preceded it by Van Persie and deemed at the time that neither were worthy of either a yellow or red card."
