AC Milan's Samba star Ronaldinho heading back to Brazil with Flamengo

Flamengo have opened the door for Ronaldinho to follow the trend of struggling Brazil internationals returning home. The 29-year-old, who has been linked with a move to Manchester City, was the most wanted star on the planet not so long ago after claiming back-to-back FIFA World Player of the Year titles in 2004 and 2005. But he has struggled to impress at AC Milan after a £20million move from Barcelona last summer and Flamengo have been alerted by criticisms of Ronaldinho from San Siro supremo Silvio Berlusconi. Ronaldo, 32, is enjoying an Indian summer after signing for Corinthians in December and fellow wayward striker Adriano, 27, last week signed for Flamengo after being sacked by Inter Milan for going AWOL. Fred, 25, shunned interest from Tottenham in January and later left Lyon for Fluminense. All three transfers were completed by the clubs finding sponsors to pay most of the players' salaries and a similar deal for Ronaldinho, most likely on a six-month loan, would be a sensational coup for Flamengo. Discussions are at a very early stage and the Rio de Janeiro club are yet to present an offer to Milan or Ronaldinho's brother turned agent, Roberto de Assis. But Flamengo president Delair Dumbrosck said: 'He interests us, as any great player interests us. If we can find a sponsor and don't blow the budget, then why not? 'We just finished a complex negotiation with Adriano. I'm still celebrating that.'
