Wiley was castigated by Ferguson following his performance in Manchester United's 2-2 draw with Sunderland, the manager claiming that the official's lack of fitness was "an indictment of our game". Wiley is understood to be upset at the attack and, at the weekend, Ferguson released an unreserved apology for his comments. However, Manchester City manager Mark Hughes may not be pleased with the appointment. Wigan play City at the DW Stadium on Sunday, less than a month after Hughes complained about the behaviour of Wiley, who was fourth official at the Manchester derby. City were unhappy with Wiley for shooing away Hughes when he questioned where all the added time had come from. Then Wiley stood laughing with Ferguson after Michael Owen's 96th minute winning goal. At the time Hughes said: "Everyone in the stadium knew the time allotted. I would like an explanation why more was added on but I rather doubt I will get it. The fourth official said time was added because of our goal celebration but that lasted only 45 seconds."
