Xavi - No room for Ronaldo

Barcelona star Xavi insists he would not have wanted Cristiano Ronaldo to move to the Camp Nou because the European champions do not need players who 'fill gossip magazines'. The Portuguese winger is set to officially join Real Madrid on Wednesday in a world-record deal after Manchester United accepted an £80million offer from the Bernabeu giants. Xavi, though, is adamant that UEFA Champions League, Primera Liga and Copa del Rey holders Barcelona do not need Ronaldo, who has been pictured over the summer enjoying a holiday in the United States of America. The Spain midfielder points to club colleagues Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Thierry Henry and Samuel Eto'o - who has been linked to Manchester City - as examples of the quality in Pep Guardiola's unprecedented Treble winners. "The best player in the world is Lionel Messi and there's no chance he will switch allegiance," Xavi said in Sport. "We also have Andres Iniesta, Thierry Henry and Samuel Eto'o and with that kind of luxury, we are capable of doing anything. "As for Ronaldo, I wouldn't want him here. At Barca, we do not have room for players who fill gossip magazines. "We are hard workers and sportsmen but he, on the other hand, is uncontrollable."
