German international Bastian Schweinsteiger will sit down with Bayern Munich to discuss his future with a move to Manchester United on the cards.

After seeing linchpin Carrick start only 16 games last season United manager Louis van Gaal is looking to bolster his midfield options ahead of next season as he prepares for Champions League football, with Schweinsteiger, Gundogan and Schneiderlin all options for the Red Devils.

And 30-year-old Schweinsteiger is now preparing to meet with the Bayern Munich hierarchy to resolve his playing future.

"I've agreed with [chairman] Karl-Heinz Rummenigge that we'll have a chat this summer to see how the future looks," Schweinsteiger told ARD television.

"I've still got a year on my contract so there's no rush, and the summer's only just beginning."

However, club chairman Rummenigge has said the club are yet to receive any formal offer from United but would not stand in the players way if he wanted to leave.

"Our position is clear: we would only consider a transfer if Bastian comes to us with the desire to leave," Rummenigge told Bild.

The highly-decorated Schweinsteiger has won the German league title an incredible eight times, along with seven DFB-Pokal titles and a single Champions League medal, with two of his eight Bundesliga titles coming under Louis van Gaal.
