Why Anthony Martial is actually one of the WORST signings of the Summer

Yesterday, Manchester United confirmed the signing of Monaco forward Anthony Martial just hours before the transfer window slammed shut.

However after missing out on the likes of Pedro and Felipe Anderson many fans felt underwhelmed at the news on Manchester United’s latest transfer target.

The fee paid for the 19 year old is believed to be €45 million but that fee could rise to an astronomical €80 million with clause, including one that sees Manchester United pay Monaco more if Martial wins the Ballon d'Or.

But he has only played 52 professional games and scored 11 goals, so I would argue that he is actually one of the worst signings of the summer.

If you compare him to players of a similar price you can see how much of a deal he was, or wasn’t, as the case may be. Alexis Sanchez cost Arsenal under £30 million last summer and it’s clear who the better player is.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he’s a bad player but Anthony Martial was obviously signed for his potential but Manchester United need a player who can make an instant impact and I don't believe that an unproven 19 year old can deliver that.

Personally I feel a better signing who have been Nabil Fekir of Olympique Lyonnais. He may be a few years older than Martial but he won the Ligue 1 young player of the year last season and is a versatile player that can play up front, on the wing or as an attacking midfield player.

Martial is a very bright prospect and has been rewarded with a call up to the French national team but does the West Indian born striker warrant a £36 million fee, No - if you ask me at least.

After joining the self-proclaimed ‘biggest club in the world’ and being likened to a young Thierry Henry Martial is now under a lot of pressure but the way he deals with said pressure will define him as a player and show the footballing world just what he’s made of.
