Manchester United have announced their first signing of the summer, and it’s a player they’ve needed all season.

Memphis Depay has been signed from PSV, subject to a medical. But who is he?
Where does he come from?
Pay attention. He plays for PSV Eidenhoven, who he made his debut for in 2011. Depay only turned 21 a few months ago, but after a great breakthrough 2013/14 season with PSV and an impressive showing at the World Cup with Holland and Louis van Gaal, some would say he’s justified his move.

Depay’s deployed on the left wing, from where he likes to cut in and shoot. A lot. You could say he’s very effective at doing this, and the statistics certainly don’t lie in this regard. In 34 appearances in all competitions this season, Depay has scored 24 goals and provided four assists. Not bad.
He shows good awareness for the players around him and is also pretty decent on free-kicks. Here’s a video of some stuff that he’s done over the last few seasons. We recommend listening without sound, because it will just annoy you.

Well, he’s just helped PSV to their first title since 2008 – so that’s not bad is it? He also score the winner against Australia in the World Cup group stages, as well as providing the assist for Robin Van Persie’s equaliser. He also scored another goal in the group stages, against Chile.
Despite that form Paul Pogba still beat him to young player of the tournament, but now it’s Depay heading to the club where Pogba learned his trade.
How much does he cost?
He’s not been paid for yet and any figures being thrown around are pure speculation, but the Mail Online report he’ll be heading to Old Trafford for £25 million.
Why’s he called Memphis?
Cos Morpheus was already taken.
Anything else?
He has a lot of tattoos, including one of Avatar and one on the inside of his lip (we hear).
He also goes only by Memphis, supposedly to spite his father whose last name he doesn’t want to use.
