Which Premier League defence seemingly hates their goalkeeper?

We’re finally at the business end of the Premier League season, and can look back at what has been a very tight year.

There’s been a lot of talk around goalkeepers this year, with David De Gea, Fraser Forster, Thibaut Courtois and Hugo Lloris rightly taking the plaudits. But we’ve had a look into the data and it’s thrown up a few interesting points.

Forster – who is out for the rest of the season with a nasty knee injury – has conceded the fewest league goals, with 19, but is that down to his goalkeeping ability alone? The England number two has conceded two goals fewer than Joe Hart this term, but hasn’t faced as many shots – with it taking 36.1 minutes for every effort on target he’s faced this season.

Spare a thought for QPR’s Rob Green as well, who’s received very little protection from his defence this season. He’s faced an unbelievable 398 shots – that’s one every 18.6 minutes.

Green’s saved 72.2% of those shots, which is slightly below the league average of 75% but still pretty good when you consider just how alert he’s had to be.
