The 31-year-old England defender has made only eight appearances for United this season, and has not played since suffering a recurrence of a back problem in the 2-0 defeat at Liverpool in October.

But Sir Alex Ferguson has welcomed Ferdinand's return for the home game against Hull City as his squad continues to emerge from the grip of a defensive injury crisis that has threatened to undermine their season.
'It's a big boost to have him back because it's been a rough time for us,' he said.

Ferdinand's return leaves only Nemanja Vidic - due back in two weeks - and John O'Shea on the list of injured defenders as United look to take advantage of playing the only Premier League fixture of the weekend to go top of the table.
With so many of the top teams dropping points this season, Ferguson believes a total of 82 might be enough to retain the title.
He said: 'I think it's going to be the lowest points total to win the title for a while. It's going to be a tough race.'
