Welbeck ready for England
Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck insists he is good enough to start for England amid rumours of an international recall.[LNB] Three Lions boss Fabio Capello is set to name the 20-year-old in his squad for the crucial Euro 2012 qualifier with Montenegro on Friday as he deals with a mounting injury list.[LNB]The Italian already has doubts over Wayne Rooney, Darren Bent, and Theo Walcott for the clash in Podgorica, meaning Welbeck could be set to add to his sole cap won against Ghana in March.[LNB]The young forward has been in fine form for the Red Devils this season, hitting five goals in eight appearances. [LNB]Despite his inexperience at senior international level Welbeck, who has already been named in Stuart Pearce's Under-21 squad, is confident he can hit the ground running.[LNB]"I'm comfortable in my own ability and when I'm on the pitch I always feel at home," said the forward, who scored United's second against Norwich at Old Trafford on Saturday.[LNB]"So there is no reason why I wouldn't feel like that for England. It doesn't matter what line I'm leading. I've only played one game for England but have never been overawed by an occasion."[LNB]Despite being born and bred in Manchester Welbeck also qualifies for Ghana through his parents.[LNB]The Ghana Football Association have previously expressed their desire to try and persuade Welbeck to play for them.[LNB]As Welbeck's only appearance for England was a friendly - ironically against Ghana - he could yet switch allegiances, unless of course he plays in a competitive game for the Three Lions.[LNB]Capello insists that any call-up for Welbeck - both past and present - is based on merit and not a desire to ensure he doesn't play for Ghana in the future.[LNB]"Welbeck has shown he can play at Champions League level. I didn't give him 10 minutes against Ghana to stop him playing for them - I think he will be an important player for England," added the 65-year-old.
