Welbeck living the dream

Danny Welbeck will be doing all he can to ensure that his Manchester United 'dream' continues for the foreseeable future. The teenage striker has seen his boyhood ambitions fulfilled by making the transition from locally-born upstart to first-team goal-getter. Having initially forced his way into Sir Alex Ferguson's plans early last season, he slipped off the radar after making two Wembley appearances for the Red Devils in the Carling Cup final and FA Cup semi-finals. He has, however, returned with a vengeance this term, determined to prove his worth to the Old Trafford hierocracy. Notching the winner in Wednesday's Carling Cup third round victory over Wolves has certainly helped his cause, and Welbeck is hoping there will be many more opportunities to impress over the coming months. "It gives you a great buzz to hear what the manager said but I am just focusing on Manchester United at the moment," he said following a glowing report from Ferguson in the wake of his star showing in midweek. "I am just like any other normal Manc boy. To be given the chance to play for Manchester United is a dream. "I just have to carry on training hard to try to get more chances in the first team." Welbeck is also hoping to take as much as possible from his time spent playing and training alongside the experienced Michael Owen this term. "It is great playing with Michael," he said. "You can always learn something from him. His movement is unbelievable."
