Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has set his sights on a Champions League final at Wembley following the Old Trafford side's impressive 2-0 win over Schalke in the first-leg of their Champions League semi-final in Gelsenkirchen. [LNB]The win leaves Sir Alex Ferguson's side on the brink of a third final in four years, against Real Madrid or Barcelona, with Rooney keen on making it to Wembley, having missed his side's defeat to city rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final due to suspension.[LNB] At the double: Rooney scores United's second against Schalke[LNB]Rooney, who set up Ryan Giggs' opening goal after 67 minutes and added the second 120 seconds later, told UEFA's official website: 'Of course, to get the two away goals was a great result for us.[LNB]'We all saw what they did to Inter Milan in the San Siro so we won't be taking them lightly but we're hoping we can go and finish the job off. It would be great if we could get to play a final at Wembley.'[LNB]The striker added: 'We defended really well and in the midfield we had Giggs, [Michael] Carrick, me coming in there, and everyone's comfortable on the ball. [Antonio] Valencia's got a lot of pace, Ji-Sung Park works hard and counter-attacking we looked dangerous. [LNB]'Their goalkeeper made some unbelievable saves and you're wondering if it's going to be one of those nights but thankfully we got the two goals.'[LNB] Job well done: Van der Sar (centre) and Vidic (left) embrace following United's win[LNB]Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar lauded his side's attacking play and his clean sheet means United's defence remains unbreached on their travels in this term's competition[LNB]The United keeper said: 'We saw some opportunities for us to create some chances but we didn't expect as many as we had in the first half. We played well we defended well, we attacked well with the midfielders and strikers, [there was] a lot of movement. They had some shots from distance but that was it.'[LNB] On their way: Giggs (left) beats Schalke keeper Neuer to become the oldest scorer in Champions League history[LNB]Meanwhile United's opening scorer Ryan Giggs - whose strike saw him become the oldest scorer in the UEFA Champions League has admitted that the side are somewhat disappointment at having not breached the Schalke defence further. [LNB]He said: 'We knew that if we kept creating chances one would go in and hopefully I would get one on my left foot. Before the game we would have taken 2-0, but now we're slightly disappointed.'[LNB] Pat on the back: Ferguson (right) praised Schalke keeper Neuer for keeping the scoreline at 2-0 [LNB]However, United boss Ferguson was quick to praise his side's performance and insisted it was one of their best wins under his stewardship. [LNB]Ferguson revealed: 'In my time at United it's the finest display of goalkeeping against us. I think there was a frustration towards the end of first half when he saved from Ryan. The move broke down and the players started walking back - I could sense their frustration.[LNB]'We've found a way to play like this away from home in Europe in recent years. We've had some fantastic performances.[LNB]'Juventus in 1999 will always be high on the list, but I think it's one of the best.'[LNB] Job done!
