Wayne Rooney thriving under pressure at Manchester United

The England forward, who scored from the penalty spot to launch United's fightback in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Arsenal, has scored 102 goals in 243 appearances for the club since becoming the world's most expensive teenager when arriving from Everton on Aug 31 2004. Rooney has emerged as United's creative force this season following the £80m sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid during the summer. The 23-year-old is under contract at United until 2012, but talks on a new deal are expected to start in the New Year. And Rooney admits that, having won three league titles, the Champions League and Carling Cup during his five years at United, he has no desire to follow Ronaldo out of the Old Trafford exit door. Rooney said: "I've always said that I love this club and, as long as I'm wanted here, I'll play here. It's as simple as that. "I can't see one reason why I should want to move to another club. I've get everything that I want here. "My family are just 30 minutes away, I'm settled here and I honestly can't see me going anywhere else unless I'm told otherwise by the manager." Rooney has now laid claim to penalty-taking duties after scoring the equaliser against Arsenal. Michael Carrick had assumed the mantle vacated by Ronaldo, but his spot-kick miss at Burnley earlier this month has given Rooney the opportunity to claim the responsibility. He said: "Nobody really knew who our penalty taker was (after Ronaldo left.) We got one against Burnley and unfortunately Michael missed, but since that, I've said that I want to take penalties and thankfully I scored against Arsenal. "Our record against the big teams last season wasn't great and Arsenal had started the season well. "We had already lost once, so we really needed the win. It's great that we got it."
