Wayne Rooney red card: Montengro defender backs appeal

Wayne Rooney's hopes of reducing his three-game Euro 2012 ban has received a huge boost from the player he was red carded for kicking. [LNB]Rooney's apology to Miodrag Dzudovic has led the Montenegro defender to offer to speak up for the England forward who is hoping to have his sentence reduced on appeal by one game. [LNB]As it stands the Manchester United striker will miss all of England's Euro 2012 group games, but Dzudovic believes the punishment is unfair and is willing to help out if called upon.[LNB] Seeing red: Rooney's dismissal threatens to scupper his Euro 2012 hopes[LNB]The 32-year-old, who plays for Spartak Nalchik, told The Mirror: 'I will speak for Rooney if he appeals against his ban.[LNB]'I don't think it was fair (the punishment). He just was not thinking in that moment and after that he realised what he had done. He realised immediately what he had done and he apologised to me.[LNB]'It was really painful. I had a slight swelling after game but I didn't have a bruise. I wasn't shocked because I wasn't aware of the kick at that moment.'[LNB]The FA are still weighing up whether to appeal the ban. They have three days after receiving UEFA's full report, which is expected later this week, to decide and may choose to leave it rather than risk an extended ban. [LNB] Flashpoint: Rooney kicks out at Dzudovic before being shown a straight red[LNB] Fabio Capello will wait until the end of the season before deciding whether to include Wayne Rooney in his plans for the European Championship finals.[LNB]Capello is in no hurry to ease Rooney's pain, having reached the reasonable conclusion that any decision on his squad does not need to be made until it is time to select all 23 players for Poland and Ukraine.[LNB]Capello would like the FA to appeal against Rooney's ban for his red card in Montenegro but officials at Wembley are cautious because of a UEFA process called 'cross appealing' - something that could end with an increased ban.[LNB]Rooney is prepared to do anything, including flying to UEFA headquarters to plead his case in person, to try to reduce the suspension.[LNB]Dzudovic has also revealed he would like to play against Rooney at the Euro 2012 finals. [LNB]'Yes sure, I would like to play against him,' said Dzudovic. 'He is a really great player and his team is always a pleasure (to play against).' Rooney plea: Striker may fly to Switzerland for appeal over his England banFergie orders six points from Galati clashes to ignite Manchester United's Champions League campaignClick here for the latest Premier League table, fixtures and results All the latest Manchester United news, features and opinion [LNB]
